Hunter's Jack
Hunter's Jack is a game about hunting with a blackjack-inspired card game. Each card does damage according to its value, multiplied by the card's effectiveness against each target. When you stand, your damage is calculated based on your hand, and when an animal's health reaches 0, it dies and you have successfully hunted it. every card you take after the first one doubles your damage overall, but be careful, each card can take your total over 21 and make you lose the hand entirely.
Suits are changed for this game, instead of the usual spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds you have your trusty hunting weapons, knife, bow, spear and sling. Each weapon varies in effectiveness depending on the animal you are hunting, and some are even counterproductive, but don't worry, you can completely negate the effects of one card if it lowers your damage too much. Unfortunately the hunter does not know how to stand without negating one card, so if your entire hand is good, one of those cards has to be negated (Pro tip: chose the lowest).
You can try to decipher the effect of each weapon, but if you don't want to here's the list.
- Rabbits.
- Knife. Decent, but they can jump away if you're not quiet enough, 75% effective.
- Bow. Shoot from afar and hit them before they see you, 100% effective.
- Spear. Too long and unwieldy, they will flee before you can touch them, -50% effective.
- Sling. Bow's cheaper cousin, but the small rocks are enough for a rabbit, 100% effective.
- Geese.
- Knife. Good luck hitting one of those little demons with a knife, -50% effective.
- Bow. The best distance away from a goose is as far away as is reasonable, 100% effective.
- Spear. Same as with the rabbit, but the goose fights back, -100% effective.
- Sling. A small rock is enough for a goose, 100% effective.
- Fox.
- Knife. Fast and lethal, 100% effective.
- Bow. Trusty bow, the fox doesn't stand a chance, 100% effective.
- Spear. Long and unwieldy, -50% effective.
- Sling. The fox is a little big for the tiny rocks, but is still badly injured, 75% effective.
- Deer.
- Knife. Stab it with a knife and the deer will flee before you can get it out, -100% effective.
- Bow. Even if it does run, you can get it with an arrow, 100% effective.
- Spear. A larger target is best for the spear, 100% effective.
- Sling. The rocks are too small to do much damage, -100% effective.
- Moose.
- Knife. Have you seen a moose? They are enormous, the knife does not do nearly enough damage, -100% effective.
- Bow. Would be good had the bow not been perfect for everything else, 75% effective.
- Spear. Good enough for our ancestors to hunt mammoths, they don't stand a chance, 150% effective.
- Sling. What are those little rocks going to do? -100% effective.
